Peter Navarro has a message for India: the road to peace—and tariffs—runs through New Delhi.

     

In a recent statement, U.S. White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro highlighted why the U.S. has imposed hefty tariffs on India. According to him, a 25% tariff was applied because “India cheats us in trade,” and an additional 25% was added due to Russian oil imports. Navarro pointed out that India’s reliance on Russian oil has now   risen to 30–35%, but before February 2022, India barely imported any. He emphasized that the argument claiming India “needs” Russian oil is misleading.

    Navarro also criticized how money from trade with the U.S. ends up fueling Russian oil deals, indirectly supporting activities that harm Ukraine. In his view, resolving this issue isn’t just about trade—it’s a strategic move for global peace, with New Delhi playing a key role in the bigger picture.

 Krishna River Floods: Karnataka aur Andhra Pradesh Mein High Alert, Hazaaron Log Evacuated

Bengaluru/Vijayawada | August 21, 2025 – Heavy monsoon rains and water released from dams have worsened the flood situation in the Krishna River basin. Several districts in Karnataka, along with the Vijayawada region of Andhra Pradesh, have been placed on high alert. Authorities have shifted thousands of people to safer locations, and relief operations are being carried out on a war.

Karnataka: Belagavi Worst Affected

In Karnataka’s Belagavi district, the Krishna River and its tributaries – Vedganga, Malaprabha, and Ghataprabha – have crossed their danger data-end="173" data-start="99">Around 2.5 lakh cusecs of water had to be released from the Almatti Dam.

A total of 550 relief camps have been established, and a flood alert has been issued in eight taluks of Belagavi district. In Gokak and Ramdurg taluks, two people lost their lives after a wall collapsed.

Following the release of 2.6 lakh cusecs of water from the Narayanpur reservoir, the Kollur bridge in Yadgir district had to be closed, forcing local traffic to take a 40 Km detour.  

District officials said, “People have been advised not to go near the riverside areas. Relief and rescue teams are deployed on the ground.”

The rains are still continuing in the Krishna River basin, and the threat of flooding does not appear to be reducing yet. For the people of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, this remains a major challenge. At present, the top priority is ensuring the safety of residents and arranging proper relief facilities for them.

Experts say that until the intensity of rainfall decreases, the districts around the Krishna River will have to remain on high alert.

The Lok Sabha’s Bold Move: Removing Ministers in Custody

Home Minister Amit Shah has taken a bold step that has made the Parliament’s Monsoon Session highly heated. He introduced three new bills in the Lok Sabha, one of which proposes that if any Minister, Prime Minister, or Chief Minister remains in judicial custody for 30 days in connection with a serious criminal charge (punishable with five years or more of imprisonment), they will have to vacate their office. If they do not resign voluntarily, their position will be automatically terminated.

Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – This bill ensures that ministers in Union Territories (such as Delhi, Puducherry, etc.) will also be subject to the same    30-day custody rule if facing criminal charges. Earlier, the removal mechanism for UT ministers was unclear, but this amendment seeks to fill that gap through law.

3. Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – This bill has been created specifically for Jammu & Kashmir. If any minister in J&K remains in custody for 30 days, their position will automatically be terminated, following the same rule that applies to the Prime Minister and Chief  Minister.

 Russia Offers 5% Oil Discount to India Amid Trump’s Tariff Pressure”

  Donald Trump, on behalf of the U.S., has imposed tariffs of up to 50% on India — starting with 25% and then an additional 25% penalty — because India continues to buy oil from Russia.

In response, both Indian and Russian officials have defended the deal, calling the tariffs “unfair” and stressing India’s right to act on the principle of “strategic autonomy.”

Russia further stated that if U.S. tariffs make it difficult for Indian exports to enter the American market, then the Russian market will remain open for Indian goods. A Russian representative even remarked, “friends don’t behave like that.”

These statements clearly indicate that, despite U.S. pressure, India and Russia’s strategic ties will remain strong.
