Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1: What's new after the Pixel 10 launch event?





Just as we thought Google was done for the day after its massive Pixel 10 series launch event, we were wrong. Shortly after today's Made by Google event concluded, Google released the first Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 for developers, showcasing what's planned for the next major update of Android 16.


 In August 2025, the wait is over—Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 has been released as a developer-focused update. Basically, this update provides a preview of features that are set to officially launch by the end of 2025. It is available for testing on Pixel devices, and Google has even described it as “suitable for general use.”


 This means that if you use a Pixel device, you can install it and experience the upcoming features ahead of the official release.


 New App APIs: New APIs have been introduced for features like PDF document editing and more granular haptic feedback control.

Interactive Chooser Sessions: When the system’s share sheet is open, an app’s UI can remain interactive, making the user experience smoother.12345678

Auto-themed App Icons: The system will automatically generate a monochromatic version if a developer has not created a themed icon, helping maintain a clean look on the home screen.

AI Screenshot Editing: On Pixel phones with the updated Pixel Studio app, users can now use AI tools to instantly edit screenshots right after capturing them.

Enhanced Multitasking: New multitasking features have been added for large-screen devices, including support for the 90:10 split-screen ratio.

Who can get the update?
This update is available for all Pixel devices, from the Pixel 6 series up to the latest models.
Users enrolled in the Android Beta Program will receive the QPR2 Beta 1 update automatically.
If you prefer to wait for the stable QPR1 update (expected next month), you should opt out of the beta program.
