 Russia Offers 5% Oil Discount to India Amid Trump’s Tariff Pressure”

  Donald Trump, on behalf of the U.S., has imposed tariffs of up to 50% on India — starting with 25% and then an additional 25% penalty — because India continues to buy oil from Russia.

In response, both Indian and Russian officials have defended the deal, calling the tariffs “unfair” and stressing India’s right to act on the principle of “strategic autonomy.”

Russia further stated that if U.S. tariffs make it difficult for Indian exports to enter the American market, then the Russian market will remain open for Indian goods. A Russian representative even remarked, “friends don’t behave like that.”

These statements clearly indicate that, despite U.S. pressure, India and Russia’s strategic ties will remain strong.
